- Prom by Laurie Halse Anderson. I loved this book about a middle-(under-) achieving student who saves prom after a teacher advisor ruins everything. Definitely belongs on my “Best Read for Girls” list. Check out Anderson’s link for more about the author. I also recommend Speak and Fever, 1793. Don’t miss her book Twisted, either.
- The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. Laugh-out-loud funny and made me cry too. Alexie writes characters so real that you will swear that you know them. I read this book through from start to finish. You will love the humor and reality.
- Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. I spent most my life believing that I hated science fiction/fantasy but after reading Ender’s Game and the rest of Card’s novels I am a huge fan. The Ender series are great but my favorite are The Tales of Alvin Maker.
