On behalf of Central Middle School I would like to welcome all students and parents for the 2011-12 school year. I look forward to working with all of you. I am joined by assistant principals John Netty and Mike Thomas. Our staff is working hard to differentiate instruction in order to increase academic opportunities for all of our students. Based on what our data tells us, we know that we will continue to place extra emphasis on increasing Math and Reading achievement.
To meet our goals we will continue to implement two initiatives aimed at increasing student achievement and increasing positive behaviors. These are Instructional Decision Making (IDM) and Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS).
IDM is a three-tired instructional process that provides additional support for students who do not achieve mastery on core objectives after initial classroom instruction (Tier I). Students will be assessed regularly to ensure they are making progress. If students do not achieve mastery in Tier I, they will be provided additional support in Tier II (during skills or in homeroom). If a student needs support beyond Tier II, we provide intensive assistance in Tier III, an after school program on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Transportation will be provided for students involved in Tier III Intensive Assistance.
Our theme for PBIS is “Respect, Responsibility and Readiness.” Students demonstrating positive behaviors will be eligible for recognition and rewards.
