Dance Marathon

Poyner students participated in a dance marathon on Friday, April 27th.  The marathon raised money for Cancer and our Relay for Life team, Poyner Panthers Pouncing our Cancer.  We raised over $300 for our team because of your generosity!  Thank you Poyner families and students for making this day a success!  We also want to thank the East High School JROTC and East High Dance Team for helping us throughout the day!  The kids had such a good time!

Waterloo Schools Foundation Breakfast

On Friday, April 27, Poyner teacher, Mrs. Barta and three of our fifth grade students attended the Waterloo Community Schools Foundation Breakfast.  The Waterloo Schools Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides assistance to schools through grants to help fun projects to increase student achievement.  Poyner students were given the opportunity to visit the Salvation Army to serve food as a part of a Civic Unit for Social Studies.  Way to go Mrs. Barta’s class!!

Blue Zone Project

Blue Zone Project

Welcome to the Blue Zones Project.  This project belongs to all of Waterloo.  Many have already taken the time to join our city’s path to healthier lives.

Being a Blue Zone would make Waterloo an even better place to live.  Thursday, through our discussions with the Blue Zone Selection Committee, we made a giant leap towards community-wide initiatives and bringing together so many of the projects we have already begun.

We still need to grow our community engagement, with less than 4% of our community having taken the Blue Zone Pledge.

We have time to change that number. I encourage you to help by taking the Blue Zones Pledge if you haven’t already done so:

Pledge support at http://bluezonesproject.com/citizens/signup

or text BZP to 772937.

The power to make Waterloo a Blue Zone Pilot site now rests in our ability to increase our citywide participation number above 25%.

Thank you for joining us on this journey to become an even stronger and healthier community!
