 Q. Why do all employees in the district have to follow the dress code except Media Tech?

A. From Human Resource Department:

According to the employee dress code in the Additional Section the following is stated:

  • Employees performing duties in lab settings or extracurricular activities shall dress in a manner befitting their profession or befitting the occasion (which may require work-type clothes, aprons or other protective items, as provided by the principal or supervisor).

Q.  Is there a new procedure for allowing law enforcement into the schools using Raptor?

A.  Yes there is.  The new procedure is as follows:

Law enforcement on official business and in uniform stop at the Operator’s desk and give their name. Their name will appear on their shirt, jacket, or vest.  The Raptor Operator will write down the officer’s name, date, and time of visit.  They do not require a Raptor badge.  The officer will check out when they leave.

Law enforcement and other first responders should bypass the sign-in process if responding to an emergency.

Checking in Law Enforcement with Raptor

Q:  Do Law Enforcement employees need to check in with Raptor?
A:  Law Enforcement employees don’t need to sign in with Raptor if they are assigned to that school.  If they are visiting another school, they need to sign in with Raptor.  If they are there for an emergency, they don’t need to sign in.

The Flash has been featuring a Question & Answer section addressing questions employees have concerning the District.
In addition to submitting your questions to the School & Community Relations Department via email to millers@waterloo.k12.ia.us, or dropping a note to Sharon Miller through interoffice mail, you may call our anonymous “Ask Us First” phone line at ext. 10AUF (10283).  Look for all questions to be answered in the “Ask Us First” section in upcoming Flash articles or if relevant to only one building, the answer will be presented in your staff meeting or bulletin.  The questions and answers will also be posted on a weekly basis online.  All names will remain confidential.

Q.  Do employees need to wear their WCSD ID badge at all times or can they use their driver’s license to get entered into Raptor when visiting buildings?

A.  All employees should wear their WCSD ID badges during work hours no matter what building they are at.  This is in the Employee Dress Code Regulation stating ID badges must be worn above the waist at all times.  If you have lost or broken your ID, you can get a replacement ID in the Human Resources Department at the ESC.  The replacement ID cost is $2.00.  Please see Kathy Oleson for more details or call, #10134.

Is an ID card (such as a driver’s license) scan necessary each time a person comes in the building? How would that work?

The Raptor operator does not need to physically scan an ID into the system in order the check the sex offender registry; however, Raptor does recommend each visitor show an ID upon each entry.  After the first scanning, the Raptor operator would simply find the visitor’s name in the system (first or last name look-up ) and use the record of the previously scanned ID to sign the visitor in and print a visitor’s badge.

This makes check-in much easier after the initial visit.   Note that the operator could opt to scan the ID every time.

If an initial entry uses manually-entered data, as opposed to the scanned ID card, future entries will require re-entering the data manually.

WCSD employees do not to scan in at their assigned building.  If they are visiting another building, they need to check in as a Faculty but don’t need an ID scanned.  They do need to wear their official WCSD ID badge.

When will the buildings begin using Raptor?

All District buildings, including the ESC, began using the new Raptor Visitor Monitoring System this week.  There will be a transition period for the next few weeks as the new check-in process is being implemented.  We appreciate your patience and cooperation.  WCSD employees will not need to scan their drivers license at their buildings, but will need to check-in with the Raptor operator when they visit other buildings.  This serves as a “visitor log” and will replace the old sign-in sheets.  District issued ID badges can be worn instead of the Raptor sticker badges.  Please continue to read the Flash as we will feature Raptor FAQs in the coming weeks.

Scanning Government Issued IDs for “Raptor”

Q:  What happens if parents/guardians don’t have a government issued id to scan for the new “Raptor” visitor monitoring system?

A:  The district has created District Visitor Approval Identification Cards for those who don’t have a U.S. government issued id or Mexican Consulate Card.  The parent/guardian can bring any of the items listed on the linked  VISITOR APPROVAL ID Verification sheet.  They need to show proof of their name and date of birth to receive a district employee’s signature on the card.  The parent/guardian should keep the signed card with them whenever visiting buildings as this will take the place of the government issued id.  The building should keep a file of the visitor approval id verification sheets in case they need to refer back to confirm the person has provided the proper documentation.  This is all to help keep our children safe.  We don’t want to discourage parents from visiting our buildings, just protect our students.   Please contact Katrina Hemann, #10161,  if you have any other questions regarding the “Raptor” system.  District-wide training will be held March 23 for the “Raptor” equipment.
