Mentoring

What is Mentoring? Mentoring is to provide one to one assistance to help students achieve personal and academic growth. What is universal to being a school-based mentor is most mentors start out thinking they will give something back, yet most end up saying, “I get back so much more than I give”.  Mentors whether they are college students, business people or community volunteers have opportunities to relate to students in ways parents and schools do not.  Mentors can be friends rather than authority figures, and thus produce personal interaction.

The Waterloo Community School District offers two mentoring programs for students Big Brothers Big Sisters and TeamMates. For more information or to become a mentor, check out the above sites.
