Students travel to Des Moines for ‘Know Your Constitution’

Each year social studies teacher, Tom Yuska gives an assignment to his government class called Know Your Constitution. In this assignment, given by the Iowa Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, the students must complete a 50 question multiple choice test and write a research paper dealing with a court case, they make up. The students have to act as a lawyer and defend their answer, either for or against the scenario. After completing this portion, Yuska then sends the papers and tests to the Know Your Constitution Committee located in Des Moines, Iowa. The Committee chooses students who have exceeded in completing the paper and scored well on the exam to go to Des Moines for a luncheon.

This year, multiple students were chosen. Senior, Ashley Carpenter, Alexa Den Herder, Ian McCoshen and Destany Walvatne. At the luncheon, there is a raffle and a few students get their name drawn to win a free trip to Washington D.C. in February.
